WELCOME TO C.A.R.E.S.

Here at  C.A.R.E.S. AK, (Canine Animal Rescue Establishment & Sanctuary Alaska) we are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of homeless and surrendered Blue/Red Australian Cattle Dogs / aka. Heelers.

We do however take in other breeds as necessary of course but our focus is on the Heeler.

We provide a safe and loving environment to each canine that comes into our care, with the goal of finding them a forever home. We are committed to the health and well being of our dogs, and go above and beyond to ensure they receive the care and attention they need and deserve.  We appreciate any and all donations to assist in food, bedding, and medical costs.

CRITICAL CARE REQUEST

Hope for Hope!

Hope was rescued from El Paso, Texas earlier this summer. They found her living in a dirt hole with two puppies.  We’re not sure if she only had two to begin with (or if there were more and they perished) but she did a fantastic job taking care of them considering that she is 90% blind.  Unfortunately, Hope was abused and she has some gunshot holes that have healed now; someone used her for target practice with BB’s. 🥹 Despite her trials and tribulations, she is the absolute sweetest girl!

DOCTOR ASSESSMENT:

She was assessed by Dr. Snyder of Polar Eyes of Anchorage, Alaska in early September. His findings were as such:

Although she does have some retinal degradation, the cataracts are definitely hindering her eyesight. Her right eye is very cloudy and the left eye is partially cloudy.  Given that she is quite a young dog, he feels that the surgery would be beneficial for her.  We think that she can see some shadows out of the left eye which is why if the eyes were cleaned up entirely it’s very possible that she would regain some fairly decent eyesight that may last for while.  How long is a while?  We aren’t sure but it would certainly improve her quality of life.

ADOPTION:

Hope is also looking for her forever home.  If you feel that she may have a place in your heart and may be a great fit for the sweet girl, please contact us.

What a heartwarming story of love and compassion this is!

Kristin and Rainiii formerly known as Lady!!, are a perfect example of how rescue organizations transform lives. Lady was saved by CARES Rescue in July and  after her puppies were successfully adopted. Kristin, having recently lost her beloved Australian Cattle Dog, was heartbroken and eager to find another companion.

After 15 years with her previous Heeler, who passed away from old age and cancer, she felt the void deeply. When she met Lady, it was love at first sight, and a special connection blossomed instantly. In August, Lady found her forever home with Kristin in South Central Alaska. This heartwarming reunion not only brought joy to Kristin but also highlighted the incredible work done by our rescues to save dogs in need. Rainii is now thriving in her new environment, surrounded by love and care.

This year has been particularly successful, with the rescue team saving one dog from California, seven Heelers from Texas (including two mother dogs with their collective seven puppies), one dog from Missouri and two local dogs from Alaska.

While it may not seem like a large number, each rescued dog represents a life changed, and the dedication of the team and supporters is commendable.

We also extend heartfelt gratitude to Angie from Anchorage, whose generous financial support has made a significant impact. Her contributions have helped raise thousands of dollars for Hope, a dog still awaiting cataract surgery. Stories like Hope's remind us of the ongoing challenges that many rescue animals face, and the continued need for funding and support.

As we look forward to 2025, there is hope for even more rescues and a growing community of supporters. The commitment to helping Australian Cattle Dogs/ Heelers remains strong, as funds and time allow.

To everyone who has graciously supported our efforts this year and in years past, we are truly grateful for your kindness and generosity. Your support makes a tangible difference in the lives of these animals.

If you’re inspired to help, consider hitting the “donate now” button to support our rescue efforts. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact and save more deserving dogs like Rainii.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous new year when it arrives!

YOUR DONATION MATTERS!

CARES AK provides all the necessary medical care for every treatable animal no matter the cost, and we are entirely funded for that care by donations from our community.  When those medical services become extensive, we are still committed to providing the absolute best care possible for these precious pets, but we need your help.

Thanks for throwing us a bone!

Let's make a difference together!
